Exams & Preventive Care

Cleaning & Preventive Visit

Professional cleaning and polishing to remove plaque and prevent cavities, plus a hygiene review with home-care tips. Typically covered under most preventive insurance benefits and CDCP.

Emergency Exam

For urgent issues like a toothache, injury, or broken tooth - we try to see emergency patients the same day. Most insurance plans cover emergency exams.

Fluoride

A quick topical treatment applied after cleaning to strengthen enamel and help prevent cavities. Usually included in preventive insurance coverage.

New Patient Exam

A full first-visit assessment of your child's teeth, gums, and jaw development, plus a chance to discuss any concerns. It's the standard first appointment for any new patient. Most insurance plans and CDCP cover new patient exams at the standard rate.

Recall Visit

A routine 6-month checkup to catch any issues early. Quick and simple. Covered by most insurance plans and CDCP.

Sealants (per tooth)

A protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to block out cavity-causing bacteria, especially helpful for kids with deep grooves in their molars. Typically covered by preventive insurance benefits.

X-rays

Diagnostic images to check for cavities, spacing, or development issues not visible during a regular exam. Price depends on how many images are needed. Usually covered under preventive/diagnostic insurance benefits.

Orthodontics & Appliances

Braces (Mild)

Full braces treatment for mild alignment issues. A program lasting roughly 12-24 months with adjustment visits every few weeks. Orthodontic coverage varies by plan.

Braces (Moderate-Severe)

Full braces treatment for more complex alignment or bite issues, typically an 18-30+ month program with regular adjustment visits. Orthodontic coverage varies by plan.

Expander + Face Frame

Combines a palatal expander with an external facial frame appliance, typically used for more significant jaw growth correction.

Habit Appliance

A gentle appliance to help kids break thumb-sucking or tongue-thrust habits that are affecting their bite.

Invisalign

Clear aligner treatment as an alternative to metal braces, for kids, teens, or adults. Program length varies (6-24+ months) based on complexity, with check-ins roughly every 6-8 weeks. Orthodontic coverage varies by plan.

Night Guard

A custom-fitted guard worn at night to protect teeth from grinding or clenching.

Phase 1 Orthodontics

Early orthodontic treatment (usually ages 7-10) to guide jaw growth and create room for adult teeth before all permanent teeth arrive. A multi-month program with regular ~30-minute adjustment visits, not a single appointment. Orthodontic coverage varies widely by plan.

Rapid Palatal Expander

A fixed appliance that gradually widens the upper jaw, often used to correct a narrow palate or crossbite before braces. Adjusted at home over several weeks after fitting.

Retainers

Worn after braces or Invisalign to keep teeth from shifting back.

Sports Guard

A custom-fitted mouthguard to protect teeth during sports.

Restorative Treatment

Baby Root Canal (Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy)

Baby Root Canal (Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy)

Used when a cavity has reached the nerve of a baby tooth - we remove the affected tissue to save the tooth rather than pulling it. Done under local anesthesia, sometimes with nitrous oxide for comfort. Insurance coverage varies by plan.

Crowns (Silver)

A stainless-steel cap placed over a baby tooth that's had significant decay or a root canal, protecting it until it falls out naturally. Often partially covered by insurance.

Extractions

Removing a tooth that's too damaged to save or blocking proper eruption of adult teeth. Done under local anesthesia. Most plans offer some coverage.

Fillings (per tooth)

Repairs a cavity by removing the decayed part of the tooth and filling it in - a very common, routine procedure for kids. The tooth is numbed beforehand so it shouldn't hurt. Most insurance plans cover a portion of restorative work.

Space Maintainers

A small appliance that holds space open when a baby tooth is lost early, so permanent teeth come in correctly. Insurance coverage varies by plan.

White Crowns

A tooth-colored cap for a more natural look than a silver crown, usually chosen for front teeth. Coverage varies - some plans only reimburse at the silver-crown rate and the family covers the difference.

Sedation & Comfort Options

General Anesthesia

Used for extensive treatment or very young/anxious patients who can't tolerate being awake for the procedure - your child is fully asleep and monitored throughout. Billed separately from the dental work and usually requires booking a hospital or surgical facility well in advance. Cost and coverage are always reviewed with the family before scheduling.

Nitrous Oxide (N2O)

Laughing gas' used to help anxious kids relax during a procedure - it's an add-on during treatment, not a separate appointment, and wears off within minutes of removing the mask. Sedation coverage varies widely by plan.

Oral Sedation + N2O

A mild sedative combined with nitrous oxide for children who need extra help staying calm for a procedure. Your child will be groggy but responsive and needs a short monitored recovery period before leaving. Rarely covered by insurance.
